When We Get There

A winding sidewalk in a park.

Hello everyone and welcome back to MPT!  This week’s portion is Ki Tavo.  Ki Tavo can be translated as “when you get there”.  Rabbi Rick Jacobs in this week’s On the Other Hand: Ten Minutes of Torah Podcast emphasizes the word “when”.  He points out that the wording is “when” and not “if” because there was no doubt that the Israelites would get to the land of Israel.

The wording of this is so important, and it’s something that we need to remember in our daily lives.  We often compare ourselves to others, which isn’t a healthy habit.  We wonder why we don’t look like that person, why did that person get a job before we did, why did they get married before we did, etc.  But, the thing is, it doesn’t matter.  We are all simultaneously going on our own individual journeys through life.  We won’t be at the same pace as others, and that’s perfectly fine.  In the end, we will reach our destination.  It’s not a matter of if we get there, but when we get there.

With summer ending and school starting up again, many of us are having feelings of hopelessness.  The thing we need to remember is that we will get through this new normal and we will do it together.  There is no if.  Since it is a busy time of transition for us, we thought we’d share Rabbi Jacob’s words with you this week.  We were inspired and we hope you will be too.
